about the Vision Box Scholarship
The Vision Box Scholarship is a $1,000 book scholarship. The scholarship is annually awarded to selected upcoming graduates of Weldon STEM High School Career Academies (WSHSCA) and the Roanoke Valley Early College (RVEC). Scholarship funds are to be applied to the cost of books and any funds remaining in excess of book costs may be applied to other school-related expenses. Scholarship recipients are awarded $500 for both the Fall and Spring semester of the Freshman year to be used to acquire books. The maximum award for the academic year is $1,000. The scholarship is contingent upon the recipient remaining enrolled full time at an eligible institution, maintaining a 2.00 cumulative grade point average, and adhering to their university’s code of conduct.
Scholarship Criteria
Criteria includes community or school involvement, merit, leadership, character, and the will of the recipient to help himself or herself prepare for a career as a useful and informed citizen with the intention of giving back to their hometown community.
To be considered for the Vision Box Scholarship, an applicant must:
Plan to enroll as a full-time student in a degree-granting program at any accredited public or private university.
Attend either WSHSCA or RVEC.
origins of the Vision Box Scholarship
The Vision Box Scholarship Fund was established in 2018 by childhood friends and former Weldon Chargers (c/o 2001) - Tori Anderson, Krystina Boney and Stephanie Cheek. Our mission in creating the Vision Box Scholarship is two-fold. We want to empower and support college-bound students from Weldon and aid in making their transitions to college easier while lightening their financial load. It is also our hope that the Vision Box Scholarship scholarship will promote a culture of giving back. As former students who have ventured out and dropped anchors in new worlds we have not forgotten our origins. This scholarship is an opportunity for us Charger alumnae to give back to our hometown and to support a culture of alumni committed to doing the same. We are looking forward to working together to fertilize the roots of a community that is producing the fruit of our future.
